New Government Legislation Favoring Self Building in U.K

A government white paper has been released dealing with the housing crisis in the UK. The white paper concerns itself with creating an environment where people can have access to affordable housing. With a foreword by the Prime Minister, anybody interested in self building or owner building in the UK should take a look at this paper.

Advising that building new homes is part of the overall plan, the paper outlines the governments plan to make housing affordable and stimulate the housing market in Britain. With most families spending one third of their incomes on housing, families are finding it harder and harder to provide the basics on a weekly basis. A call for homes that are attractive and can be built quickly gives the self builder or owner builder the encouragement they need to begin their project.

A sluggish housing marketing over the last decade has made it harder to find suitable accommodations in the UK. With only 160000 new homes being built per year since the 1970’s means that the amount of housing available hasn’t been able to keep up with the growth of the population. Owner building is a great option for building a custom home with the self build ethos but with a bit of help along the way.
